As a result of the definition of the color control patches in the CIELAB color space, the patches are defined in absolute terms independent of output. The patches are allocated to the three classes of ideal, real and minimal color space. The fields are arranged in three lines with a maximum of 25 positions.
The ideal color gamut comprises the whole color space which is covered by really existing body colors. The ideal color gamut can not be attained by conventional printing techniques.
The real color gamut can be attained in offset printing on matt coated paper. The minimal color gamut can be attained in newspaper printing.
The colour control patches in the Ugra/Fogra Media Wedge CIELAB are defined in L*a*b* for the D50 illumination and the 2° viewer.
The Ugra/Fogra Media Wedge CIELAB has been developed in the EPS and TIFF data formats. The EPS data file is recommended for the use with laser printers, digital proofing systems, conventional and digital print. For color management systems, which do not have affection on EPS data files, the TIFF data file is recommended.
