The MiniTarget is designed as control tool, at which the process variables, such as
- Register accuracy
- Solid ink and half tone densities
- Dot gain
- Doubling and slur
- Trapping
- Colorimetric values
as well as qualities, such as
- Grey balance and
- Color deviation
can be measured in the newspaper printing.
So far, the use of control targets in newspaper printing has been minimal, due to special reasons. The MiniTarget developed by Ugra/Fogra can be positioned comfortably anywhere in a newspaper, due to its small dimensions of only 13 mm x 10 mm. It can be, for example, placed directly under a picture or an advertisement..
The MiniTarget contains lines and color measuring fields, whose picture is complete digitally entered by the handheld instrument in a measuring process. The picture is analyzed then by software developed by EMPA.
In co-operation with Ifra and 10 prominent printing press centers in Europe the system was field tested for practical use and accuracy. Due to the simple handling, short measuring time, clear representation of all relevant measuring data, and its small size, the MiniTarget system has proven itself as a powerful tool for quality control in newspaper printing.
