Future for the history of technology: Donation to Typorama

St Gallen, 27 November 2025 – The history of technology encompasses more than just old machines; it forms the basis of our current knowledge. We are therefore delighted to have supported the Typorama – Museum of Type and Printing in Bischofszell with a generous donation.

Expansion of the collection and library
At the end of November, we donated various historical and high-quality testing devices and specialist literature to the museum. These exhibits will enrich the museum's collection in future. The measuring instruments, especially the spectrophotometers, serve as historical witnesses to technical development and help to convey the topic of colour measurement to visitors in the exhibition. The specialist books ‘Farbmetrik in der grafischen Industrie’ (Colour Metrics in the Graphic Arts Industry) by Prof. Dr. Kurt Schläpfer add valuable background knowledge to the museum library.

The right place for technical heritage
The decision to donate these items to Typorama was an easy one. Typorama is no ordinary museum where exhibits gather dust behind glass. It is a living enterprise that not only preserves the fascinating craft of lead typesetting and letterpress printing, but also actively practises it. In the former hat factory in Bischofszell, the typesetting and printing machines still rattle away today. Experts and enthusiasts ensure that knowledge of these traditional techniques – from hand typesetting to machine production on the legendary Linotype – is not lost. With our donation, we want to contribute to strengthening the technical infrastructure and theoretical foundation of this work.

Responsibility and sustainability
As a company, it is important to us that technical resources are used sustainably. Instead of disposing of functional equipment and timeless expertise, we give them a new, meaningful purpose. At Typorama, they find a place where they are appreciated and benefit the public and interested parties.

We cordially invite our customers and partners to visit Typorama for themselves. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a real 20th-century printing shop, smell the printing ink and experience the history of technology up close.
