Compression test on packaging

The compression test on packaging with constant feed rate is carried out according to FEFCO TM 50 or DIN 55440-1. The test method, also known internationally as the Box Compression Test (BCT), is used to determine the maximum load that an unfilled package can withstand before it collapses.

For the test, a prefabricated, unfilled package is first air-conditioned for 24 hours and then loaded in a stacking compression press between two metal plates until failure of the corrugated cardboard packaging occurs.

The force-displacement diagram is recorded during the test and the measured force is given in newtons.

Your benefit:
  • Prediction or verification of the effectiveness of packaging protection
  • Risk minimisation: insufficiently protective packaging can be optimised before market launch
  • Fast testing in Ugra’s accredited testing laboratory
